Knit a Yak Program 2009 (Hong Kong)
To
ride on the lunar year of the ox, Shokay
aims to raise public awareness towards the issue of singleton elderly through a
community knitting campaign launched in the East District, where lives the
largest elderly population including singleton elderly (according to census in
2006, 111,400 elderly were recorded in the district, occupying 13.9% of the
total). In this community campaign,
elderly volunteers are recruited to knit scarf / hat for the singleton elderly
in the district. Shokay will be
providing all yak yarn used in the knitting campaign.
Through the knitting campaign, Shokay hopes to empower elderly volunteer knitters to make contribution to the community they are living in and to help build up a caring neighbourhood together.
